Advance Your Expertise in Nuclear Engineering
The online Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh is designed for working professionals and recent graduates who want to advance in the nuclear energy field without putting their careers on hold. Students build a strong foundation in core areas including reactor physics, radiation detection, thermal hydraulics, nuclear fuel cycles and nuclear materials. Courses are taught by faculty with both academic and industry experience, ensuring practical relevance and applied learning. The program provides comprehensive graduate-level preparation across key study areas such as nuclear operations and safety, nuclear science and nuclear systems and policy. A strong emphasis on nuclear operations and safety addresses a critical workforce demand and leverages unique industrial resources in the Pittsburgh region. Specialized coursework in nuclear systems and policy includes in-depth study of nuclear codes and standards and nuclear plant management, preparing graduates to navigate regulatory, operational and leadership challenges.
