Advance Your Expertise in Supervisor of Special Education

The Supervisor of Special Education Certificate equips educators with the leadership skills needed to oversee and advance special education programs at the district or Intermediate Unit level. Designed as an advanced graduate program, it addresses the growing demand for professionals who can provide administrative oversight, direct staff and ensure quality services for students with special needs.

This part-time program is ideal for those preparing for supervisory roles with responsibility for guiding professional and non-professional staff, managing educational programs and supporting student success. The curriculum includes a 3-credit flexible internship that can be completed in their local community. Students also meet once a month in-person on Saturdays on our Oakland campus in Pittsburgh.

Those who complete this certificate are prepared for a variety of special education administration and supervision positions, ready to make a meaningful impact across schools and communities. This program is aligned with PA Department of Education academic standards and prepares students for the Supervisor of Special Education PreK-12 Certificate.

Eligibility

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

This program offers 5 total courses, totaling 15 credits. All coursework is delivered in a hybrid format, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere. Classes run for one course per semester, allowing you to complete the program in two years. Students will study part-time.
