Earn Pitt’s hybrid Orientation and Mobility Specialist master’s degree—prepare to help people with visual impairments navigate independently.

For more than 60 years, the University of Pittsburgh School of Education has offered vision studies programs to prepare highly specialized teachers. We are one of the longest-running and most widely respected programs in personnel preparation in the United States. Thousands of highly specialized teachers who served the needs of children who are blind or visually impaired got their start at Pitt.

Our orientation and mobility specialist program is primarily online with some required face-to-face sessions. The limited number of in-person sessions focus on hands-on workshops to build your skills as a professional.

Eligibility

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

What to Expect in Your Classes 

This program offers 6 total courses, totaling 16 credits. All coursework is delivered in a 100% online format, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere. Classes run for 16 weeks for both fall and spring terms, and 12 weeks for summer, allowing you to complete the program in as little as nine months. Students will study part-time or full-time.
