Advance Your Expertise in Library and Information Science

The Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program prepares graduates for careers in the information professions, including library, archival, information, and data sciences. Through a competency-based curriculum, student build skills and knowledge of values, ethics, and social responsibilities to meet the information needs of people, organizations, and communities.

Students can complete the 36-credit degree in three consecutive terms as a full-time student or as a part-time student in up to four years. Students benefit from flexible electives and the option to pursue specializations and certificates aligned with seven career pathways.

Our graduates pursue careers not only in libraries, archives and museums, but also in government, corporate, nonprofit and entrepreneurial environments. Our students and faculty value integrity, access, openness, transparency, empathy, communities, and all literacies for all people.

All online MLIS students pay in-state tuition. No predictor score is required. The program has been accredited by the American Library Association since 1924.

School Library Certification Program (SLCP) offers an Instructional I Teaching Certificate in Library Science (PK-12) from the PA Department of Education.

What to Expect in Your Classes 

This program offers 12 total courses, totaling 36 credits. All coursework is delivered in an online asynchronous format with weekly schedules, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere. Classes run for 12 to 15 weeks, allowing you to complete the program in 11 months-4 years. Students will study part-time or full-time.
