Advance Your Expertise in Civil Engineering

The Master of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a focus in Construction Management at the University of Pittsburgh prepares professionals to lead the future of the built environment. Designed for engineers and technical professionals seeking to advance into management and leadership roles, the program bridges advanced engineering knowledge with the business, strategic and operational skills needed to deliver complex construction projects. The curriculum blends advanced coursework in project delivery, sustainable construction, cost estimating, scheduling and risk management with electives in business, law and engineering. Students benefit from Pitt’s R1 research excellence and strong industry connections in Pittsburgh and beyond, learning from faculty who bring both academic rigor and real-world industry experience.

This program is well suited for applicants who hold a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, as well as those with degrees in other engineering disciplines and at least three years of relevant industry experience. Pitt also welcomes applicants from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds beyond engineering. All candidates are evaluated holistically, and individuals with non-engineering degrees and related professional experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles as construction managers, project engineers, project managers, or operations leaders—equipped to manage complex projects while balancing time, cost, quality and client satisfaction, and navigating the business, financial, ethical and legal challenges of the construction industry.
